How to setup IMAP/POP with Microsoft Outlook 2010

Basic configurations:

Incoming and Outgoing mail server: mymail.brinkster.com (do not change)

UserName: Your full email address

Incoming IMAP port: 143

-SSL Port 993

Incoming POP port: 110

-SSL port 995

Outgoing port: 25 or 2525  (if 25 fails, your ISP blocks it, switch to 2525)

Important Notes:

* Incoming/outgoing server is “mymail.brinkster.com”, do not change it.

* Account@YourDomain.com (This should be your actual email address.)

* Make sure that the Email address and Username are identical and they are your actual email address.

Before starting please make sure you can login successfully here https://mymail.brinkster.com/

If you can not, please visit the  http://controlpanel.brinkster.com/EmailManager/ Select your domain, Select the email account in question, Enter the password you want, confirm password and hit save.  Verify it accepts it into the webmail login now.

Note* if you already have an account added and need to confirm/change the settings, skip to step 3.1

Step 1: Open Microsoft Outlook 2010.

At the top of the page click on the 'File' menu and then select 'Add Account’

Step 2: Select the radio button for ‘Manually configure server settings…’ and hit next.

Step 3: Select Internet E-mail account and hit next

*Note* if you need to edit existing settings rather than add a new account:

Step 3.1 Open outlook, Select file >> Account Settings >> Account settings >> Select the account and hit Change.

Step 4: Fill out the information with:

Your name: Your name

Email address: Your full email address EG john@smith.com

Account type: Pop3 or imap.

Pop3 will download from the server, best for one device. Imap will sync, best for multiple devices.

Incoming/outgoing servers: mymail.brinkster.com

Username: Your full email address EG john@smith.com

Password: Your login password

Step 5: Select More Settings

Step 7: Select the outgoing server tab and place a check in the first box “My outgoing server (smtp) requires authentication” and a radio button in “use same settings as my incoming server”

Step 8: Select the advanced tab *Two different setup methods*

A. If you wish to use ssl, use:

POP3 Port 995

IMAP Port 993

Make sure the SSl box is selected or the drop down is set to SSL/Auto.

B. If you wish to not use ssl, use:

Make sure the incoming port is:

POP3 Port 110

IMAP Port 143

The box for SSL is unchecked.

Make sure the outgoing port is 2525 (best to just use to rather than hoping your ISP doesn’t block 25)

“Use the following” under the outgoing port set to “Auto”

NOTE: If you picked pop3, make sure you pick an option for “leave a copy on the server”.  Pop3 will download all the emails from the server and delete them on the server (webmail) if you do not choose to leave a copy.

Once done, hit ok, hit next which should test incoming/outgoing.
