Initializing Disk Space on Windows Articles
When you create a Server or add a disk to the server it will need to be initialized. If you login to the server and go to the File Explorer it will only show the 16GB C: drive for the OS, but not the other disk or the rest of the space for the drive. This goes for both flavors of Windows that we offer, 2008 and 2012.

To initialize the disk you will need to follow these steps:

  1. Login to the Server and go to Computer Management
  2. Once in Computer Management go to Disc Management
  3. Here you will see the partitions and size.
  4. At this point you can do one of two things, either extend the C: partition to include all of the space, or create another partition.
  5. To extend the C: drive, right click and select Extend Volume and follow the prompts in the pop up.
  6. To create another partition, right click on the Unallocated space and select New Simple Volume. Follow the prompts in the pop up.
