Creating a Firewall Template
Firewall Templates allow you to define sets of rules for network traffic, which can then be applied to Virtual Machines to create firewalls. Firewalls help to prevent unauthorized usage of your network by allowing or disallowing network traffic to or from specified IP addresses based on user-defined rules. To create a firewall template:- Show the resources page by clicking the Resources link in the top right hand corner of the screen.
- Click on the Firewalls tab.
- On the Firewall Templates widget, click the Create Firewall Template button.
- The Create Firewall Template dialog box is displayed.
- Specify the following:
- Name - The name of the firewall.
- Default IN Action - The default action to perform on inbound network traffic. Exceptions to this can be defined when managing the firewall. For more information, see the Managing a Firewall Template page.
- Default OUT Action - The default action to perform on outbound network traffic. Exceptions to this can be defined when managing the firewall. For more information, see the Managing a Firewall Template page.
- Network Type - The type of IP addressing used. This can be either IPv4 or IPv6.
Once these fields have been filled out appropriately, click the Save button. A job will be submitted to build the firewall template. The Manage Firewall Template dialog box is displayed automatically; here you can define exceptions to the default actions taken on inbound and outbound network traffic. For information about how to do this, see the article on Managing a Firewall Template.
