Images - Overview Articles
Images are templates of disks that have been stored on the platform in a read-only format to allow customers to duplicate them repeatedly. Images may be base Operating System templates, or can contain software that is commonly used on your virtual machines, for example an email client or media player. Images are created from existing snapshots, or uploaded via the 'Fetch Image' service.

Brinkster Cloud Services supports the following image file types:

  • .qcow2
  • .raw
  • .img
  • .iso

Note:  If you are using an .iso file, you must create a disk from it and attach this to the required server. For information about how to create a disk, see the article on Creating a Disk.  For information about how to attach a disk to a server, see the Managing a Server article.

  • .vmdk

Images can be private to the customer who created them or shared with selected other customers. Images can be associated with a product offer by the licensee, allowing users to be billed for rights to use the license (image product offer) and, if required, for each virtual machine they create using the image (image instance product offer). Images can also have specific permissions, allowing restrictions to be placed on how they can be used. For more information, see the article on Example Image Permissions.
