Setting Up pop3/imap with Mac Mail



 

Basic configurations:

Incoming and Outgoing mail server: mymail.brinkster.com (do not change)

UserName: Your full email address

Incoming IMAP port: 143

IMAP SSL: 993

POP SSL: 995

Incoming POP port: 110

Outgoing port: 25 or 2525  (if 25 fails, your ISP blocks it, switch to 2525)


Important Notes:

* Incoming/outgoing server is “mymail.brinkster.com”, do not change it.

* Account@YourDomain.com (This should be your actual email address.)

* Make sure that the Email address and Username are identical and they are your actual email address.

 

Before starting please make sure you can login successfully here https://mymail.brinkster.com/

If you can not, please visit the  http://controlpanel.brinkster.com/EmailManager/ Select your domain, Select the email account in question, Enter the password you want, confirm password and hit save.  Verify it accepts it into the webmail login now.


 

NOTE: If you have already tried setting up the account but cannot send/receive, follow the next steps to edit an existing account.  If you have not setup an account yet, skip down to “Creating a new account” section.


 

Section: Edit an existing account:


Step 1. Open Mac mail.  Select Mail at the top menu and hit preferences.  In the next window hit accounts. Select the account on the left menu and edit the fields to match the following info;



 On the Account Information Tab

Description: Whatever you want here

Email Address: example@YourDomain.com


 


Step 2. Click on Server Settings


For both incoming and outgoing fields

Username: youremail@yourdomain.com

Password: Your password

Hostname: Mymail.brinkster.com (don't change this)

Incoming port pop3 110, imap 143

If Use TLS/SSlL is checked then 993 or 995

Authentication: Password


Outgoing: Same except for the port. 2525


Deselect the options for "automatically manage connection settings on both incoming and outgoing and you should get fields for the ports and for SSL/TLS options







 

Click ok and test the account

 

 



 

Section: Creating a new account,


 

If you are adding a new email account start here:

Open Mac mail.  Select Mail at the top menu and hit preferences.  In the next window hit accounts.

Select the + mark near the bottom left and Select “add other mail account


Fill out your name, your full email and your email password.  It may say “account must be manually configured”.


Pick Imap or pop3

Mail Server: Mymail.brinkster.com

User name: Your full email address (required)

Select Next



SMTP Server: Mymail.brinkster.com

Username: Your full email (says optional, is required or you get relay error)

Password: your email password

Select Create



Attempt to send a message.  If it fails go to the beginning of the article and verify your settings match what it shows.  Sometimes apple mail will not save the settings correctly.
