Uploading Files to Your Website (FTP)
There are many ways you can upload and connect to your site; the following are some options that we have available for your use.· Using the Control Panel File Manager
The file manager allows for quick access to your files, you can upload your files but only one at a time and you cannot upload folders. You can access your file manager by logging into your hosting account and clicking on the file manager on the main control panel page.
· Using FTP such as FileZilla (A very common one that we use here)
For more information, see Connecting to Your Hosting Account with FileZilla (FTP).
· Using the third party application (website software or FTP client)
You can view more information on the following applications by clicking on the applied links. Dreamweaver iWeb
Some popular FTP clients are FileZilla, Fetch (Mac), and gFTP (Linux). You might also be able to upload your site through the software used to create it, such as Adobe Dreamweaver® or Microsoft Expressions Web®.
Every FTP client works differently, however you need to configure the following basic settings to connect to your hosting account:
Host Name
The Hostname will be located inside of your control panel under your website settings.
FTP User Name
You can locate this inside of your website settings on your control panel. For Windows accounts you would add Brinkster/ in front of your username so it appears like this: Brinkster/username
FTP Password
Your hosting account password. I forgot my password.
FTP Port
If an FTP port is asked you can usually leave it to default or place port number 21 in there.
Start Directory *Some programs may ask or require a start directory.
Our hosting services do not require a "Home" or "Start" directory, so leave the field blank. If the client requires a value, enter a single forward slash followed by webroot (for Windows accounts) or public_html (for Linux accounts).
