You will need to use the specific FTP host for your account. To find this, log into your Brinkster account, select the 'Control Panel', and choose the 'Acct Settings'. https://controlpanel.brinkster.com/WebsiteSettings/
Option 1:
Using the following settings in an FTP client such as FileZilla, Cute FTP, or WS_FTP.
FTP Host: listed in Website Settings of the account Control Panel.
Username: BRINKSTER\Your Brinkster Account Username
Password: Your Brinkster Account Password
Example using filezilla:
Once connected your computer is on the left, the server is on the right, simply drag and drop into the folder you need.
NOTE: Web files need to be inside webroot to be live.
** If you are using Dreamweaver: There are other options you are prompted to fill in, such as ftp directory, you can leave these blank. You only need to fill in the FTP host, User ID, and Password fields.
Problems?
If you receive an error message when attempting to connect, please do the following:
1. Verify that the settings that you are using (from above) are correct. Remember, you need to use "BRINKSTER\Your Brinkster Account Username" as the user.
2. Note that if you are connecting to the Internet via a proxy server or firewall, you or your ISP will need to make the appropriate configuration changes (i.e. open port 21, use passive mode FTP).
3. If you continue to experience problems, contact Support either by live chat or a case and include the following information:
a. The exact settings that you are using to connect (from above)
b. The specific error message that you are receiving
Option 2:
If you are not able to install an FTP program or are having issues with one, you can use Windows explorer (not internet explorer) to connect via FTP.
Open a Windows Explorer window and click in the address bar.
Enter in ftp://yourftpaddress. You can find your specific host for your account here https://controlpanel.brinkster.com/WebsiteSettings/
NOTE: Make sure to put ftp:// before the address
It should then prompt for a login box. Use the Username found on the Website settings tab in the format of brinkster\username or brinkster/username (both work).
You should then see your file system similar to the view in the file manager.
To upload, simply open a new windows explorer menu, find the files you need and drag and drop them, just as if you were moving them to a new location on your computer itself.
