I moved (am moving) email away from Brinkster
Moving your email:
What happens to my email when I move away from Brinkster?
I have closed my Brinkster account and am now hosting email with another company.
I changed my MX records to point mail to another email provider.
If you have hosted or still host your email with Brinkster and plan to change your email provider; Brinkster does not guarantee storage of your old email accounts after the time you move your email. If you are thinking about or have already moved your email to another provider, it is highly suggested that you make a personal backup of your email, calendars and contacts by downloading your mail through POP3 and / or using the Brinkster Webmail interface.
Backup your email:
In webmail go to Preferences -> Import / Export to make a complete backup of the email account, or selectively make backups of the calendar and contacts.
From any POP3 mail program; such as Outlook, Thunderbird, or MacMail. Set the account up as POP3 and download your mail. Remember that POP3 will only download the Inbox directory, you will need to move any email located in subdirectories of the inbox into the inbox itself. You can move your email into the inbox with the webmail program or through IMAP.
Your Email is not getting delivered:
I moved my email away from Brinkster and now it is not getting delivered.
Mail sent from other Brinkster mailboxes never reaches my email.
This usually happens because there is still some record of your domain name and / or email account within Brinkster's mail system. Many mail systems will attempt to deliver email messages locally (to itself) before looking outside when delivering an email message. This is true of Brinkster's mail system. If you are experiencing this scenario, we need to remove all trace of your domain from Brinkster's email system. Remember that this means we will no longer have any copy of your domain name or email accounts on our system and that you will need to have a copy of any important mail messages, calendars, and contacts before this can be resolved.
Contact our support team when you are ready and we will process the request to have your domain and email accounts completely removed from our email system.
Restoring your email:
If your email is gone and you did not make a personal backup of your email before editing your mx, transferring your domain, removing your old mailboxes, moving mail from Brinkster to another provider, we may have a backup of your mailboxes. Brinkster disaster recovery email backups are stored for a period of 3 - 5 days. Email restorations cost $300 per mailbox due to the detailed and time consuming process. Email restorations from Brinkster's disaster recovery backups can take a period of 2 - 5 business days to complete. It is strongly suggested you make personal backups of your email mailbox through POP3 or by using the Import / Export feature of the Webmail Interface for any mailbox you wish to backup.
